GTA 6 map size vs GTA 5:
how big is Leonida?
The GTA 6 map is about twice the size of GTA 5: roughly 166 km² (64 sq mi) of land. Rockstar says Leonida is nearly as big as GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 put together, but hasn't published an exact figure.

GTA 5's Los Santos and Blaine County cover roughly 81 km² (31 sq mi) of land. Rockstar has described Leonida as about twice that, which is 162 km². Its other comparison, GTA 4, GTA 5 and RDR2 combined, comes to 172 km². We use 166 km², between the two.

RDR2's map is commonly estimated at around 75 km², a little smaller than GTA 5. At 166 km², Leonida is roughly 2.2× RDR2. Rockstar has also said there are far more enterable interiors than in its previous games, so the space should be denser as well as bigger.
Compared with real places
At around 166 km², Leonida would be bigger than San Francisco (121 km²), Paris (105 km²) and the City of Miami (93 km²), and nearly three times the land area of Manhattan (59 km²). It's still far smaller than real Florida, which covers about 170,000 km².
How we estimate it
Rockstar has given two comparisons and no number. We take the commonly cited land-area estimates for each earlier game, work out both comparisons (162 km² and 172 km²) and use a figure between them. Square-mile numbers you see elsewhere often differ because they include water or start from a different GTA 5 estimate. We'll replace this with measured figures once players can explore the full map after the November 19 launch.
